Stop Losing What You Learn: Inside Edirae's Biggest Upgrade Yet
By Obafemi Patrick, Founder of Edirae
I have a question for you.
Think about the last online course you finished. Maybe it was three months ago. Maybe six. Can you still explain the core concepts from it — clearly, confidently, without looking anything up?
If you're being honest, probably not.
And that's not your fault. It's how memory works. Research consistently shows that without active reinforcement, 80% of what we learn fades within 30 days. The forgetting curve doesn't care how expensive the course was or how many hours you put in. It just erases.
This is the problem I built Edirae to solve. And today, I want to walk you through the biggest upgrade we've ever shipped — one that fundamentally changes what this platform does and why it matters.
The problem nobody talks about
The online learning industry has a dirty secret: completion rates mean nothing.
A certificate of completion tells you that someone sat through content. It doesn't tell you whether they understood it. And it definitely doesn't tell you whether they still understand it three weeks later.
Every major platform — Coursera, Udemy, LinkedIn Learning, you name it — measures progress by content consumed. Videos watched. Modules completed. Time spent. These are vanity metrics. They measure exposure, not retention.
I know this because I've been on the other side of it. I've "completed" courses and forgotten most of the material within a month. I've earned certificates that represent hours of my life but nothing I could actually demonstrate in a conversation or an interview.
When I started building Edirae, the mission was simple: make learning permanent. Not just engaging. Not just accessible. Permanent. If you prove you understand something on Edirae, you should still understand it months later.
This upgrade is how we deliver on that promise.
What we shipped
Everything below is live right now on Edirae. These aren't announcements for features "coming soon." This is what the platform does today.
Proven Skills
On most platforms, you complete a module and get a checkmark. On Edirae, you prove a concept and earn a Proven Skill.
The difference isn't semantic. A Proven Skill means you demonstrated genuine understanding — not that you clicked "next" enough times. And once it's in your profile, Edirae doesn't just store it. It tracks it. The platform monitors your retention over time and knows exactly when a Proven Skill is starting to fade from memory.
This is the foundation everything else is built on.
Proof Pages
Every Proven Skill you earn generates a Proof Page — a public, verifiable record of what you know.
You can share it on LinkedIn. Embed it in your portfolio. Send the link directly to an employer or a colleague. A Proof Page shows the concept you proved, when you proved it, and how well you've retained it.
This isn't a certificate of completion. It's proof that you actually know something — and the retention data backs it up.
I built this because I was tired of credentials that mean nothing. "Certificate of Completion" tells a hiring manager you watched videos. A Proof Page tells them you can explain REST API design patterns — and that you could still do it when the platform checked two weeks later.
Knowledge Health Dashboard
This is the feature I'm most proud of, and the one no other learning platform has.
Knowledge Health is a single score — 0 to 100 — that represents how well you're retaining everything you've proven across your entire Proven Stack. It's like a vital sign for your knowledge.
When your Knowledge Health is high, your skills are strong and stable. When it starts dropping, it means concepts are beginning to fade. And here's where it gets interesting: Edirae doesn't just tell you something is fading. It tells you which specific skill is at risk, how long it's been since your last recall, and how many minutes it will take to restore it.
We call this Retention Debt. It's the gap between what you've proven and what you still confidently know right now. The dashboard makes that gap visible — and closable. One tap, a few minutes with your AI Mentor, and the skill is restored.
No streaks. No badges. No gamification tricks. Just the real, physical state of your knowledge, tracked and protected.
Confidence Calibration
After every recall session, Edirae asks you to rate your confidence: how sure were you about that answer?
Over time, the platform compares your self-assessed confidence against your actual performance. It surfaces two patterns most learners never see on their own:
Where you overestimate yourself — you feel confident, but your recall is shaky. These are the concepts that trip you up in interviews and on the job because you don't know what you don't know.
Where you underestimate yourself — you rate yourself low, but you consistently perform well. These are strengths you're not giving yourself credit for.
This is metacognition — one of the most powerful learning sciences — made practical. Most people never get this kind of insight unless they're working with a dedicated tutor. On Edirae, it happens automatically.
Unlimited Growth Plans
When you sign up for Edirae, the first question isn't "what course do you want to take." It's "what do you want to be able to do?"
Your answer drives everything. The AI Mentor builds you a Growth Plan — a structured path of concepts to prove, ordered by dependency and relevance to your specific goal. It's not a course catalog. It's a plan built around your destination.
You can create as many Growth Plans as you need. Switching careers? Start a new plan. Picking up a side skill? Start another. Each one is tailored, goal-driven, and tracks your proven progress.
Weekly Proof Report
Every week, Edirae sends you a report that no other platform can produce. It includes what you proved this week, what you've retained, what's compounding (skills that have stayed strong for 3+ weeks), and what needs attention.
It's not a progress summary based on time spent. It's a retention report based on what you actually know. The difference matters because it tells you the truth — not what makes you feel good.
Built-in Support
We built a full ticket system directly into the platform. Submit a request, track it, get a real response from a real person. No chatbot. No help article maze. We're a small, bootstrapped team and we read every ticket ourselves.
The science behind it
I want to be transparent about something: Edirae isn't built on opinions about learning. It's built on research.
There are 10 peer-reviewed learning sciences powering the platform right now. You don't need to know their names to benefit from them — they work silently in the background. But if you're curious, here's what's under the hood:
Multimodal Learning — every topic is taught through articles, videos, flashcards, exercises, and hands-on checkpoints. Different formats activate different parts of your brain, making memories stronger. Research shows this produces 40% better retention than single-format learning.
Spaced Repetition — we remind you to review at scientifically optimal intervals — just before you're about to forget. This turns short-term memory into long-term knowledge. Each review doubles memory strength.
Active Recall — instead of just re-reading, Edirae tests your memory. Research shows this strengthens neural pathways far more than passive review — producing 50% faster learning.
AI-Powered Adaptation — your AI Mentor adjusts explanations, difficulty, and pacing based on your performance. Struggling? It slows down. Flying through? It challenges you more. Personalized pace, not one-size-fits-all.
Interleaved Practice — instead of drilling one topic at a time, we mix related concepts together. This forces your brain to distinguish between ideas — building flexible, transferable knowledge. Studies show 43% deeper mastery compared to blocked practice.
Elaborative Interrogation — after each concept, Edirae asks you "why does this work?" and "how does this connect?" Explaining things in your own words builds deep understanding, not just surface recall. This creates 3x better connections between concepts.
The Generation Effect — you write answers before seeing them. Research shows that generating your own response — even a wrong one — creates stronger memory traces than reading the correct answer first. 2x stronger recall, documented.
Desirable Difficulties — we keep you in the 60–80% success sweet spot. Too easy and you coast. Too hard and you quit. The right amount of struggle is where real learning happens.
Metacognitive Check-ins — we regularly ask how confident you feel before revealing answers. This trains you to accurately judge what you know versus what you think you know — the number one skill of expert learners.
Smart Review Timing — our scheduler factors in your daily availability, energy patterns, and upcoming deadlines to find the best time for new content versus reviews. Learning works with your schedule, not against it.
I'm not listing these to impress you. I'm listing them because they're the reason Edirae can make a claim that no other platform makes: what you learn here stays learned.
Why we built this
I should be honest about something. Edirae is a bootstrapped company. There's no venture capital behind this. No growth-at-all-costs mandate. Just a small team that believes learning should be permanent.
I built the first version of Edirae because I was frustrated. Frustrated with platforms that measured progress by videos watched. Frustrated with certificates that didn't represent real skills. Frustrated with spending real time and money on learning and having nothing to show for it a month later.
This upgrade is the version I always wanted to build. The one where the platform doesn't just teach you — it remembers what it taught you, tracks whether you still know it, and brings you back at the exact right moment to make sure it sticks.
That's what "Learn it. Prove it. Keep it." means. It's not a tagline. It's the architecture.
What's next
We're not done. Conversational checkpoints — where your AI Mentor evaluates your understanding through natural dialogue instead of forms — are in development. Co-Learn invites, Guest Passes, and Bring-Your-Own-Learning (where you can ingest your own books and articles into the retention engine) are on the roadmap.
If you're already on Edirae, you'll get every new feature as it ships. If you're not, there's never been a better time to start.
Your brain is going to forget most of what it learns. That's just biology.
Edirae is built to make sure it doesn't.
